8-Digit LED Display Drivers with Serial Interface

MAX7219CNG+ PDIP24

MAX7219CWG+ SOP24

Datasheet: [ pdf ]

The MAX7219 is compact, serial input/output common-cathode display driver. It can drive 7-segment LED displays of up to 8 digits, bar-graph displays, or 64 individual LEDs. Included on-chip are a BCD code-B decoder, multiplex scan circuitry, segment and digit drivers, and a dual-port 8x8 SRAM memory to store each digit. Only one external resistor is required to set the segment current for all LEDs. Each digit can be code-B decoded (0,1,...,9, –, E, H, L, P, blank) or no-decoded. The MAX7219 also allow the user to control display brightness with an external resistor or digitally by the intensity register. 3-Wire Serial Interface is used to connect to all common uPs. Several MAX7219 can be casdaded to drive more than 8-digits.
