KTY81/210 NXP – Why Did It Become a Standard?

For many years, the KTY81/210 temperature sensor from NXP was the most popular model of the entire KTY81 series. It was valued for its simple integration with measurement systems (nominal resistance of 2000 Ω at 25 °C), wide operating range from –55 to +150 °C, and stable, linear PTC characteristic, ensuring predictable and repeatable measurement results. The compact SOD-70 package enabled easy PCB assembly, while the NXP brand guaranteed quality and long-term availability. These features made the KTY81/210 a widely recognized industry standard, used in consumer electronics, industrial systems, and automotive applications.

Everything Good Comes to an End – NXP KTY81 EOL

NXP officially announced the discontinuation of the complete KTY81/KTY82 temperature sensor series on March 30, 2023 [source: NXP Discontinuation Notice 202301036DN]. Last orders were accepted until the end of 2023, with final deliveries scheduled for December 2025. This means that NXP KTY81 sensors are becoming increasingly difficult to obtain and more expensive.

Discontinued? Don’t Worry – GXCAS Saves Your Project!

To fill this market gap, we present a proven alternative – GXCAS KTY81 series sensors in DO-35 packages. Why switch to GXCAS?

  • Stable availability and pricing – regularly manufactured, without NXP discontinuation risks.
  • Full electrical compatibility – identical nominal parameters (2 kΩ at 25 °C for KTY81/210), temperature curve, and operating range (–50…+150 °C).
  • DO-35 glass package – durable, popular, and easy to mount.
  • Attractive unit price – significantly lower than remaining NXP stock.

Technically, the sensor is compatible, but the DO-35 package differs from SOD-70. However, PCB redesign is a one-time cost that pays off through long-term availability, and DO-35 provides additional benefits:

  • Mechanical durability – glass encapsulation withstands stress, vibration, and high soldering temperatures.
  • Improved thermal response – fast heat transfer is ideal for motor control and power electronics.
  • Universal mounting options – DO-35 can be soldered to PCBs, wires, connectors, and terminals.
  • Ease of adaptation – dimensions are standard (like diode 1N4148), making footprint replacement straightforward.

GXCAS – Temperature Sensor Experts
