Darlington Transistor Array ULN2803A
ULN2803A (Micros part number: ULN2803adw UMW) is a multi-channel, high-current and high-voltage integrated circuit consisting of eight NPN Darlington transistor pairs. It is a replacement for the discontinued Texas Instruments device. It is used as a driver for switching inductive loads such as relays, stepper motors, or lamps directly from 5V logic circuits, including TTL and 5V CMOS.
Key Features and Capabilities of the ULN2803A
- Type: Driver, Darlington transistor array
- Number of channels: 8
- Maximum collector current: 500 mA (per channel)
- Maximum output voltage: 50V
- Package: SMD, SOIC-18
- Operating temperature range: From -40°C to 125°C
- Manufacturer: UMW
- Additional features: Built-in clamp diodes for inductive loads, compatible with 5V TTL/CMOS logic
Typical Applications of the ULN2803A
This integrated circuit is designed for use in:
- Relay control – direct switching of relay coils;
- Motor control – controlling stepper motors and small DC motors;
- Display control – switching segments in LED and gas displays;
- Lamp driving – turning on and off bulbs and other light sources;
- Logic buffering – amplifying logic signals to drive higher currents.
